Back to Back W's for the Mavericks Football team! It's great to see the hard work paying dividends for the players and coaches.
There are wins happening in other areas of our football program as well.
The following was an email sent to me this afternoon - which I had the pleasure to read to the team before the game tonight:
Mr. Johnson,
We wanted to comment on the Bridgeport vs Sandhills Valley football game several weeks ago. Our family attended the game and Bridgeport ended up winning in a well-played matchup. We are rodeo people and were cheering for your Johnston boys also because we know that crew well! However, the post game handshakes from your players was just about the CLASSIEST move we’ve ever seen at a high school sporting event. Every player met our eyes and shook our hands with authority while thanking us for coming. It was honestly enough to put a lump in your throat, and a very unexpected gesture. We understand that your head coach, Luke Connell, decided to start this tradition? If so, then you have a coach that is in the business of raising men and not just coaching players. Sports are so much more that what scoreboards reflect and this is the perfect example of that!
We have been meaning to reach out for a while and let you know that this gesture does not go unnoticed and to congratulate you on doing sportsmanship right! Good luck with the rest of your season.
Del & Stacy Kraupie
Bridgeport (and now Sandhills Valley) Fans
